COMMENTARY:
NOTE: Please See The New Year-End Chart.
3 Doors Down spent their second week at #1, but things are just heating up. The enduring song, "When Im Gone" shows no signs of falling back down. But beware, right when things are looking good for 3 Doors Down, things are also looking good for Linkin Park and former #1 and Vanilla Veterans No Doubt. Linkin Park's "Somewhere I Belong" gains a spot to #2, while No Doubt's "Running" gains a spot to #3. Linkin Park will be the Vanilla Top 100s most likely #1 in the coming weeks, but No Doubt has scored #1 with each of their "Rock Steady" tracks. Both are likely competitors, but 3 Doors Down may outlast both of their powers, just in time for Audioslave, who is still climbing the top ten. Audioslave jumps 2 spots up to #4 with "Like A Stone," surpassing Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow's former #1, "Picture," which rests at #5.
Nas jumps two spots to #6 with "I Can," an all-time high for Nas on the Vanilla Top 100. At #7 are the Dixie Chicks' "Travelin Soldier," up a spot to #8 is Christina Aguilera's "Fighter," at #9 is the Dixie Chick's "Landslide," and at #10 for another week is Evanescence with "Bring Me To Life" who seem to have lost their chance at a #1 song, due to comments made last week. Currently at #14 on the year-end chart, Evanescence still has made an impact on 2003. The White Stripes and Fleetwood Mac rest right out of the top ten (#11 and #12, respectively), as they wait to debut in the top ten (probably next week). The two acts will probably bump out Evanescence, as well as the Dixie Chicks' "Landslide" which is currently at #1 on the year-end chart.
Jewel takes the Greatest Gainer honors this week, as "Intuition" jumps 18 spots to #24. Other big jumpers include Daniel Beddingfield, the Ataris, Coldplay (The Scientist), Trapt, Third Eye Blind, Goo Goo Dolls, Uncle Kracker, and Mercy Me.
This week's Hot Shot Debut comes from Vanilla Veteran Michelle Branch, earlier than expected, at #64 with her first single off the new album, "Are You Happy Now." It seems like this may be a tough competitor for #1 during 2003. Other notable debuts include Switchfoot, The Flaming Lips, Vanilla Veteran Ashanti, Sugar Ray, and the American Idol Finalists.
This week, the Heatseekers list extends to the top 50. 15 debuts came this week, including American Idol's ousted Carmen Rasmusen at #1 with "Turn The beat Around," which she performed live on the show. Delta Goodrem makes a stunning leap from #22 to #2 with "Born to Try."
Be sure to check out the Year End Chart, which will now be published weekly, based on points. Make sure to watch each week until December where it will be complete. Currently at #1 are the Dixie Chicks' "Landslide", and currently at #2 are Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow.
So there you have it. 3 Doors Down are at #1, but may be stopped by either Linkin Park, No Doubt, or Audioslave. It will be an interesting week next week as these four acts battle it out for #1. See You There. For now, we will try to persuade you into buying Fleetwood Mac's "Say You Will" in our latest CD review.
