VANILLA GRAMMYS COMMENTARY
Thanks for participating in our first annual Vanilla Grammys!
The biggest winner on the night of the first annual Vanilla Grammys had to be No Doubt. Out of the nine nominations, they picked up five awards, including the award for ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR. With singles "Hey Baby," "Hella Good," and "Underneath It All," No Doubt also won awards in BEST ALBUM, BEST A/C ARTIST, BEST DUO/GROUP/BAND, and BEST FEMALE ARTIST, which was awarded to Gwen Stefani.
This years BEST NEW ARTIST award went to Norah Jones, who also won an award for BEST BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST. Jones was nominated for seven Vanilla Grammys.
The big three awards went to Norah Jones, (BEST NEW ARTIST), Avril Lavigne (BEST SINGLE), and No Doubt (BEST ALBUM).
Next to No Doubt, Aaliyah and The Distillers took home second prize, with three Vanilla Grammys each. It was clear that Aaliyah still is the queen of hip hop, as Aaliyah won awards for BEST HIP HOP ALBUM, BEST HIP HOP SINGLE, and BEST HIP HOP ARTIST. The biggest shock of the night may have been that the breakout group, The Distillers, took home three awards including BEST ROCK SINGLE, BEST ROCK ARTIST, and BEST UNDERGROUND ARTIST. The Distillers spent three weeks at #1 on the Vanilla Top 100.
Kelly Clarkson and Garbage tied for third place with two awards each. Kelly Clarkson won for BEST POP SINGLE and BEST SOUNDTRACK, for the American Idol Greatest Hits CD. Garbage took home the BEST ROCK ALBUM and the BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT.
Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park, Pink, Sheryl Crow, Dashboard Confessional, Michelle Branch, and Fat Joe/Ashanti each won one award.
Thanks for joining us this year in the First Annual Vanilla Grammys. Congratulations to No Doubt! Well See You Next Year!
