COMMENTARY:
NOTE: Please See The Year-End Chart.
Welcome to another edition of the Vanilla Top 100, where we bring you the best songs in town, namely the one by 3 Doors Down. "When I'm Gone" is at #1 for a third consecutive week. They are wrapping up their reign and may take a fall next week, as they begin to lose momentum. Meanwhile, Audioslave is still gaining enough momentum, enough to bring them up two spots to #2 with "Like a Stone." Previous contenders for the top spot fall down a spot to make room for Audioslave. Linkin Park and No Doubt each fall one spot down to #3 and #4, respectively. At #5, the White Stripes take a stunning debut into the top ten with "Seven Nation Army." This may be a future #1, given time.
Nas, Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow, as well as Christina Aguilera fill up the next three spots in the top ten. At #9, Fleetwood Mac enters their first top ten hit for the Vanilla Top 100 with "Peacekeeper," which is also another potential #1 hit. At #10, the Dixie Chicks' "Travelin' Soldier" waits at the end of the road of their top ten reign.
Speaking of "Travelin Soldier," they ruled the entire January of 2003, half of February, and half of March with this song, and are currently sitting at #1 on the year-end chart. Were talking about the Dixie Chicks' "Landslide," obviously (unless you are new to the chart), and today, we experience history. The Dixie Chicks mark one of the longest stays in the top ten. In fact, the last time they werent in the top ten was December 7th, 2002 (now doesnt that sound like a long time ago) Also, Evanescence falls out of the top ten with "Bring Me To Life."
With the release of Jewel's latest video for "Intuition," the song rose again this week, from #24 to #16. This song is another song that has the capabilities of being a future #1 hit. You will most likely be seeing it in the top ten in the coming weeks. Matchbox 20, Uncle Kracker, and Kelly Clarkson also made notable gains on the chart. However, the most stunning leaper came from Monica, who is this weeks Greatest Gainer. The new single "So Gone" leaped from #84 to #50 this week, and will probably enter the top 40 by next week.
Its been on the heatseeker chart for a while, but Floetry's "Say Yes" finally got enough power to break into the chart, hot shot debuting at #68. Other notable debuts include Black Eyed Peas, Lil Kim & 50 Cent, Missy Elliott, Pillar, and Celine Dion.
After Trenyce was ousted from American Idol, Vanilla radio stations all across America decided to play tribute to her by playing "I Have Nothing," "Proud Mary," and "Love Will Keep Us Together," all of which were performed live on American Idol. This resulted in Trenyce debuting at #1 and #2 on the Heatseekers Chart. We wish Trenyce the best of luck in her blossoming career that's ahead of her.
So there you have it, 3 Doors Down are at #1 again. Dont underestimate them, but dont underestimate Audioslave. Also, with three heavy contenders (White Stripes, Fleetwood Mac, Jewel), anything can happen in the coming weeks. May will be a very interesting month. See you next week.
