COMMENTARY:
Another week of April goes by, and Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow are again at #1. Yes that's right, their hit "Picture" (which is currently Vanilla's #2 on the year-round chart, next to the Dixie Chicks' "Landslide") are at it again at #1. One door down, we see our fellow rockers 3 Doors Down, who are at their highest at #2 with "When I'm Gone," which is very likely to take next week's #1 title. Another door down, we see Linkin Park, who rise up three spots to #3 with "Somewhere I Belong." the Dixie Chicks seem to lose their bullet, as "Travelin Soldier" falls two spots to #4. Rounding out the rest of the top five is Evanescence, who gain two spots with "Bring Me To Life."
No Doubt enjoys their second week in the top ten, rising four spots to #6 with "Running." Former #1's (Dixie Chicks and Norah Jones) follow at #7 and #8. Next, Audioslave jumps five spots, entering the top ten at #9 with "Like a Stone." Nas also enters the top ten for the first time, with "I Can" at #10.
With the release of "Elephant," the White Stripes are this week's greatest gainer, rising 44 spots to #30 with "Seven Nation Army." They are not the only act to jump drastically. In fact, last weeks' Greatest Gainer, namely Christina Aguilera, jumps 13 spots to #12 with "FIghter." Eminem takes a 26-spot jump to #17 with his Aerosmith-sampled "Sing for the Moment." Avril Lavigne takes a 17-spot jump to #22 with "Losing Grip." The last notable massive leap comes from Daniel Beddingfield, who jumps 30 spots to #38 with "If You're Not The One." Other notable increasers include Martina McBride, Jewel, Uncle Kracker, and System of a Down.
As Kelly Clarkson finally enters the Veteran Award with "A Moment Like This," the Vanilla Top 100 still doesn't lack the girl next door. Her lastest hit "Miss Independent," which she performed on "American Idol," is this week's hot shot debut, debuting at #70. (This is Clarkson's fourth hot shot debut, along with "A Moment Like This," "Before Your Love," and "Respect.") As Linkin Park still climbs the top ten with "Somewhere I Belong," their other song "Faint" enters at #85. Other notable debuts include Finch, Staind, and Jennifer Lopez.
So there you have it. Kid Rock and Sheryl at #1 again, Kelly Clarkson leaves, and enters, the White Stripes are on a roll, and 3 Doors Down aren't three doors down anymore. Who will be next week's #1? Experts give it to 3 Doors Down or Linkin Park, but Kid and Sheryl may still have some lasting power left. It's too early to tell. We'll see you then.
