COMMENTARY:
After weeks of spontaneous #1 chartings, Coldplay reaches two weeks at #1 with "Clocks." The single has only been on the chart for 8 weeks, not including the time after it fell off the charts. This has been the most successful re-entry song of the vanilla top 100. (Nivea reaching #2 in 2002). At #2 for yet another week are the Dixie Chicks with "Landslide." Kid Rock and Shreyl Crow, and Smilez & Southstar remain at their respective spots at #3 and #4, while Norah Jones leaps four spots to #5 with "Don't Know Why." Missy Elliott, The Dixie Chicks (Travelin Soldier), and Aaliyah follow. 3 Doors Down reaches Top ten territory, jumping from #16 to #9 with "When I'm Gone." Avril Lavigne rounds out the top ten at #10 with her former #1 hit "I'm With You."
Meanwhile, Evanescence inches closer and closer to the top ten, at #11, with a likely top ten debut next week. Nas and Zwan (#15 and #16) also make steady progress. Audioslave and Linkin Park both move quickly into the higher 20's area. The Foo Fighters make an impressive leap from #60 to #31 with "Times Like These." Common's "Come Close" leaped from #61 to #31, and is this week's Greatest Gainer.
It was a tight race for the hot shot debut, as Ms. Dynamite (77), 3 Doors Down (80), and Jay-Z (81) all debuted strong. But, Bowling for Soup's "Girl All the Bad Guys Want" who have spent fifteen weeks in the heatseekers list, finally debut, with the highest debut at #75. Mercy Me (91) and Bonnie Raitt (92) also make notable debuts. Lil' Kim's "The Jump Off" receieves a huge re-entry at #59. As most re-entries experience (think Nivea, Musiq, and Coldplay), this song has big potential.
Next week, will Coldplay take over the charts for a third week? Or will the Dixie Chicks be in the mood for an eight. Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow are in town for a second. Norah Jones still has a lot of power for "Don't Know Why" and may score #1 for a second time. Well, tune in next week.
