COMMENTARY:
There has been a different #1 for the past month, and theres no sign of a stop to this spontaneous phenomenon. Our latest #1 is a song by the name of "Clocks," by a familiar band name Coldplay. After performing at the Grammys with the New York Philharmonic last week, this and had enough power to move from #3 to #1, beating out the Dixie Chicks. Still strong, the Chicks' "Landslide" is currently at #2. Down another spot is Kid Rock and Sheryl Crows former #1 hit, "Picture." Smilez & Southstar jump three spots, entering the top 5 at #4 with "Tell Me." Last but not least, Aaliyah falls back to #5 with 'Miss You."
Missy Elliott, Avril Lavigne, the Dixie Chicks, and John Mayer round out the rest of the top ten, expectedly. But, Norah Jones former #1 song "Dont Know Why" is on a huge rebound, as she enters the top ten again, at #9. This will be her 37th week in the top 100 with that song, never hitting below #30. Also, as she hits almost 700K with the album "Come Away With Me," the title track will reach #18 in its 16th week. "Dont Know Why" is likely expected to reach #1 again and reign for a couple of weeks.
Norah Jones wasnt the only person to gain spots. Newcomer Vivian Green hit #38 (last week: #77) with "Emotional Rollercoaster." Zwan, Nas, Audislave, and Linkin Park are among others with significant increases. In only its second week, signs are looking good for Linkin Park, which may be a future #1 contender. The same goes for Nas with "I Can."
This weeks #1 was a battle between two pop females, battling it out this whole week. Christina Aguilera and Avril Lavigne both fought in the heatseekers chart for several weeks, as it was too early to debut in the top 100. Finally, both debuted this week, and Avril Lavigne lands a spot higher with "Losing Grip" at #64. Christina Aguilera's "Fighter" debuts at #65. Both have been #1 in the past year, and are both likely to hit #1 again with these sets of singles. Will Christina Aguilera end out being the fighter? Or will she lose grip. In a couple months, well find out. Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac doesnt need to debut in the heatseekers, as they debut early at #77 with "Peacemaker." This is a potential top-ten contender. Other debuts include Eminems Aerosmith-sampled "Sing for the Moment," and DJ Kayslays "Too Much For Me" featuring the likes of Nas, Foxy Brown, Amerie, and Baby.
Thats it folks. There you have it. What about next week? Will Coldplay break the trend and score another week at #1? Or will the Dixie Chicks gain their #1 spot back again. Or maybe Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow. Dont rule out Smilez & Southstar, dont even rule out Norah Jones. Its anyones game. See you there next week.
