COMMENTARY:
Welcome back to the Vanilla Top 100. This week, we have many surprises coming up for you. First, we already have a new #1. Secondly, we have not one, not two, not even ten, but a massive thirteen debuts! Well be getting to that soon.
So, it turns out that Avril Lavigne could beat 6-Week champions, the Dixie Chicks, but could only stay at #1 for a week. In fact, she drops to #3 this week with "I'm With You." Our latest #1 is "Picture," by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow, up two spots this week. In its 14th week, "Picture" dominates the chart, and may likely stay there for a while. The Dixie Chicks still dont show any signs of falling, as they stay another week at #2. Meanwhile, theyve got more to compete with, as "Travelin' Soldier" enters the top ten at #10. Coldplay makes big news, jumping five spots to #4, with "Clocks." Aaliyah also enters the top five with "Miss You" in its 16th week. The top ten will consist of the Donnas, Missy Elliott, Smilez & Southstar, Christina Aguilera, and the Dixie Chicks Travelin Soldier, respectively.
Coming close are the Counting Crows and Vanessa Carltons remake of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi", at #12. But, making the biggest news, from the Daredevil soundtrack, newcomers Evanescence will jump thirty-one spots from #52 to #21, with their breakthrough single "Bring Me To Life." After an appearance with Jay Leno, Kathleen Edwards reaches her peak at #27 with "6 O'Clock News." Whitney Houston jumps 21 spots to #51, with "Try it On My Own." Lastly, the Goo Goo Dolls will make a sixteen-spot leap to #65 with their latest, "Sympathy."
Now, as promised, there were thirteen debuts, along with eleven adds to the heatseekers. This weeks hot shot debut comes from Audioslave, with "Like A Stone." It debuts at #62. Right under at #63 is Nas' "I Can," also debuting high with a positive message. After their single "Hands Up," fell off this week, TLC makes a return with "Damaged," debuting at #67. At #73, the Foo Fighters debut "Times Like These," Christian-turned Mainstreem artist Stacie Orrico debuts at #65, Martina McBride lands at #78, and Multiple Grammy Nominee Bruce Springsteen debuts at #80. Sugarcult debuts their latest, "Bouncing Off The Walls," after their former #2 song, "Pretty Girl." Neo-soul newcomer Vivian will see the charts for the first time, as "Emotional Rollercoaster" debuts at #85. After a few weeks on the heatseekers list, Chevelle gains enough power to debut at #89, and Sum 41 debuts at #93. Newcomers the Raveonettes debut their first single at #97. Last but not least, another Asian American artist for the Vanilla Top 100. Newcomer Vienna Teng debuts her first single "The Tower" at #98.
So there you have it. a Very exciting week indeed. You get the picture. Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow will probably remain at #1 for another week. But will they live up to the Dixie Chicks six week run? Or will the Dixie Chicks come back with "Landslide." Also, "Travelin' Soldier" is climbing up the charts quickly. Kid and Sheryl should also be on the lookout these coming weeks for Coldplay and Aaliyah, who both desperately want a #1 single. Thats all for now. Well see you next week. Hopefully.
