Commentary:
After five consecutive weeks, Kelly Clarksons reign of the top 100 has drastically decreased, as she drops two spots to #3, for the first time ever. This is the first time Kelly has not been #1 with A Moment Like This, but she still gets a hot shot debut and a one-spot rise this week. But It is now No Doubts time to shine. After climbing high to #2 last week, Underneath It All, featuring Lady Saw, pulls in by heavy rotation to the #1 spot for the first week. Climbing two spots to #2 are the Distillers with City of Angels taking #2 for the second time. Next week could be their first #1 if you request them enough. The rest of the top five include Sugarcult and Santana & Michelle Branch reaching #5.
If you thought Kellys 15 minutes of fame were over, you are incorrect. Although A Moment Like This falls to #3, she still has a chance with Before Your Love, gaining power from #10 to #9. Even better, Clarkson experiences her third consecutive HOT SHOT DEBUT in just six weeks, breaking a record previously held by No Doubt. Respect is the highest debut of the week, debuting at #46. With the release of American Idol: Greatest Moments, a handful of idols [Ryan Starr, Christina Christian, RJ Helton, Tamyra Gray] debuted this week, while Nikki McKibbins Piece of My Heart climbs high since last week.
Jurassic 5s Whats Golden is the only addition to the top ten, flying from #15 to #10. Missy Elliotts Work it and Boxcar Racers There Is, barely reach the top ten at #11 and 12 respectively. ISSYSs request pulled their single, Single for the rest of my life from #26 to #19. Jay-Z and Beyonces Bonnie and Clyde jumped from #52 to #38.The greatest gainer in airplay this week was Simple Plans Id Do Anything. They jump from #36 to #15. Madonna takes the greatest gainer in sales with Die Another Day which leaped from #23 to #16 due to the release of her new video.
Besides the handful number of American Idol debuts, other notable debuts include Oakenfields Starry Eyed Surprise, Shania Twains Im Gonna Getcha Good, and Matchbox 20s Disease.
Tune in next week to see if No Doubt can stay at #1 for another week, or will the Distillers, Kelly Clarkson, Sugarcult, or Santana beat her.
