COMMENTARY:
The Dixie Chicks, once again, refuse to give up the top spot for a sixth consecutive week. "Landslide" just wont fall! Christina Aguilera fell down to #3, switching places with Avril Lavigne, who may take #1, after peaking at #2. Aguilera, who has already been #1 for two weeks, may not see the light of #1 again, but Ms. Lavigne is very likely to. Also, Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow's "Picture," are getting close, as they rise a spot to #4. The Donnas slip one notch down to #5 with "Take it Off," rounding out the rest of the top five. John Mayer stays a spot at #6 with "Your Body is a Wonderland." The rest of the top ten includes hip hop acts from Missy Elliott, Jennifer Lopez, Ja Rule, and Aaliyah, respectively. Jumping to #12 this week, Smilez & Southstar seem like they can make it to the top ten next week with "Tell Me" at only its fifth week.
If a fairly new song falls off the chart, it still has a chance to Re-enter, and songs like Nivea's "Dont Mess With My Man," and Musiq's "Dontchange," which have experienced the same thing, usually make a huge RE-Entry. Both are still in the top twenty this week. Well, add another to the list, as Coldplay re-enters the chart at #13 with "Clocks." "The Scientist" which debuted very high last week, is also off to a great start, jumping to #55. "Clocks" has a fair chance at gaining enough power to boost it into the top ten next week, while the Canadian track "The Scientist" may enter the top 50.
There were only four debuts this week, with the hot shot debut going to the new band Evanescence, at #72 with "Bring Me To Life", from the "Daredevil" soundtrack. A Notch lower, Switchfoot debuts their latest, "More Than Fine." Other notable debuts include Matchbox 20 and Jason Mraz. Lifehouse, Stone Sour, 2Pac, the White Stripes, and Whitney Houston all fell off this week, and this was the first in many, that there were no veteran award entrees.
Last Weeks hot shot debut is this weeks greatest gainer in sales. Newcomer Kathleen Edwards moves into the top 40 at #39 with "6 O'Clock News." The Dixie Chicks' "Travelin Soldier" is moving fast, currently at #17. AFI's "Girls Not Grey" also makes a move, up to #25.
Next week, #1 will probably be the Dixie Chicks or Avril Lavignes. Smilez & Southstar and Colplay are both very likely to make their moves into the top 10. For now, check out some CD reviews for Coldplay and Sugarcult.
