COMMENTARY:
The Dixie Chicks are again at #1, ending out the month of January. If you remember one thing from January, 2003, its should be that the Dixie Chicks were #1 throughout the whole month. But will they make it another week? Or can they even make it another month? Only time will tell. In the meantime, we know that the Donnas are threatening their position, as they remain at #2 for another week, gaining more momentum. Former #1 Christina Aguilera takes a rebound, back to #3 with "Beautiful," which is possible to head back to #1. John Mayer falls a spot to #4, but Avril Lavigne kicks it up a few spots to #5 with "Im With You." Any of these are possible to take #1 next week.
As Puddle of Mudd, Kid Rock, Aaliyah, and Nivea round out the rest of the top ten, Jennifer Lopez and LL Cool J make a top ten entry at #9 with "All I Have." The Strokes have been knocked out, to #12 with the former top ten hit "Someday."
This week, we experience many debuts (9 to be exact.) The Hot Shot Debut came from AFI at #60 with "Girl's Not Grey." Santana & Musiq's "Nothing At All" came in at second, at #69. Boomkat's "The Wreckoning" and Celine Dion's "I Drove All Night" ended in the 80's at #80 and #82, respectively. The rest were a handful in the 90s, featuring debuts by newcomer Lucy Woodward, Second-timers The Used, Divas TLC, Good Charlotte, and O-Town, who barely makes it at #100.
Again, there will be two Veteran Award Entrees, given to Avril Lavigne and Angie Martinez. Ms. Lavigne made it 35 weeks, with four of those weeks at #1 with the smash hit, "Complicated." Ms. Martinez made it 32 weeks, peaking at #8 with "If I Could Go!" Both have successful runs on todays chart with "Im With You," and "Take You Home" both experience a big gain.
Speaking of big gains, the Dixie Chicks are at it again with "Travelin Soldier" as they are the greatest gainer in airplay again. Jumping from #34 to #22, this single will most likely reach #1, and will experience the same success as "Landslide." Missy Elliott & Ludacri's "Gossip Folks" are the greatest gainer in sales, jumping from #25 to #18. Others who experience a boost are Christina Aguilera, Avril Lavigne, Aaliyah, Jennifer Lopez, New Found Glory, Smilez & Southstar, No Doubt, t.A.T.u., Shania Twain, Amada Perez, and John Mayer.
Next week, well find out who will be #1 for the first time in February. The Dixie Chicks already reigned January, but do they have enough power to last throughout February? Or will the Donnas, Christina Aguilera, John Mayer, or Avril Lavigne take the spot? Find out next week, as well as all the new debuts, Veterans Awards, and more.
