COMMENTARY:
The Vanilla Top 100's favorite country act (The Dixie Chicks) have managed to hit #1 for yet another week, as "Landslide" hits week #3 at #1. Puddle of Mudd's "She Hates Me" failed to take them down, as they fall to #4. Instead, the chicks have new competition by the Donnas and John Mayer, who have never hit #1. The Donnas' "Take it Off" jumps two spots to #2, and John Mayer's "Your Body is a Wonderland" jumps two spots to #3. Rounding out the top five is Christina Aguilera, whos "Beautiful" drops two spots to #5.
Meanwhile, the rest of the top ten features a shuffle. After the video release of Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow's "Picture," it jumps two spots to #7. After her SNL performance, Avril Lavigne makes the biggest news, jumping from #11 to #8 with "Im With You." With all the big leaps, the Strokes, unfortunately suffer a fall from #7 to #10 with "Someday."
The Dixie Chicks experience another success, as their single "Travelin Soldier" becomes this weeks Greatest Gainer in airplay. After consecutive big leaps, the song about the Vietnam War jumps 23 spots to #34. Another gainer comes from Smilez & Southstar, who's single "Tell Me" jumps from #40 to #26. Greatest Gainer in Sales, Missy Elliott's "Gossip Folks" jumps to #25, while No Doubt's "Running" jumps to #33.
Irv Gotti's The Inc earns a Veterans Award for "Down 4 U", as well as TRUSTCompany's "Downfall." The Inc spent 31 weeks in the top 100, while TRUSTCompany spent 32.
Debuts come courtesy of Erykah Badu, Nas, Whitney Houston, Nivea, and Mariah Carey. After many weeks struggling to enter the top 100, Badu's "Love Of My Life" Hot Shot Debut's at #72, but it may already be losing its bullet, considering its age. Divas Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey's debut singles may not perform as well as previous tracks. Carey's "Boy" barely debuts, at #99.
Next weeks #1 could very well be the Dixie Chicks, again, for a fourth time. Or, either the Donnas or John Mayer could take the spot. The Chicks are showing no signs of letting down, but the Donnas and Mayer are both showing a lot of perseverance. After an AMA performance, Christina Aguilera could very well jump back up to where she once was, at the end of 2001. Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow, along with Avril Lavigne could both make their ways into the top five. No one knows, so they only way to tell is to come back here next week! Well see you there.
