COMMENTARY
Christina Aguilera beautifully dominates the chart again, as her single "Beautiful" spends a second week at #1. But her success story could easily be stopped, as the Dixie Chick's "Landslide" lands at #2 this week, coming from last weeks #5 position. The Dixie Chicks will have to battle it out with Christina for the #1 position next week. Meanwhile, Nivea and the Strokes stay their positions at #3 and #4, respectively. No Doubt's "Underneath It All," trades places with the Dixie Chicks, sliding to #5. Puddle of Mudd gains power and reaches #6, Aaliyah jumps up a spot to #7, the Distillers land at #8, Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow enter the top ten at #9, and the Donnas' "Take it Off" enters the top ten at #10 with a nine-spot jump.
This weeks biggest gainer happens to be the Dixie Chicks, as "Landslide" makes a stunning jump to #2, but there were many other big jumpers. The Donnas' "Take It Off" makes it their first ever top ten hit, as they jump from #19 to #9. Musiq, John Mayer, and Avril Lavigne all experiences rises to the high teen areas. Jennifer Lopez & LL Cool J rise more than ten spots to #20 with "All I Have." Chevelle's "The Red" also experiences a massive leap from #78 to #36 with "The Red" in its fifth week.
Many debuts in the top 100 come from heatseekers, including this weeks highest debut, John Mayer's "Why Georgia" at #61. Former heatseeker 2Pac debuts "Thugz Mansion" at #65. The only other debut this week comes from The Roots, which "Break You Off" [featuring Musiq] debuted at #72.
Next weeks candidates for #1 are clearly Christina Aguilera and the Dixie Chicks, but Nivea could be a possibility. Top five entry candidates include Puddle of Mudd, Aaliyah, and the Donnas. Musiq, John Mayer, and Avril Lavigne are all likely to enter the top 10. The most likely top 20 entry would be Ja Rule and Ashanti's "Mesmerize." This will be the last charting for 2002, so watch for either Christina Aguilera or the Dixie Chicks to be the first artist to reach #1 for 2003. Happy New Year.
