COMMENTARY
The Vanilla Top 100 Queen and Kings G. Stefani, A. Young, T. Dumont, and T. Kanal, otherwise known as No Doubt have finally stepped down and passed the throne to Christina Aguilera. After five weeks [four consecutively], No Doubt's "Underneath It All" falls to #2, letting Aguilera's "Beautiful" start its reign at #1 and could very likely live up to No Doubts record, staying there for 5 weeks or more. Nivea falls down to #3 with "Dont Mess With My Man." The Strokes rise up one spot to #4 with "Someday," while the Dixie Chicks make a huge leap from #9 to #5 with "Landslide." #6 and #7 come from the Distillers and Santana, consecutively. From #13 last week, Aaliyah is now #8 with "Miss You." Following, Puddle of Mudd's hit "She Hates Me" rises to #9. Missy Elliott falls to #10 with "Work It."
Meanwhile, the greatest gainer in sales goes to Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow's "Picture" who are up four spots to #11, and will most likely be a top ten entry next week. The greatest gainer in airplay goes to John Mayer, who has finally experienced a decent boost. Mayer rises 52 spots to land at #17 this week. At #16, Musiq experiences a huge 38-spot leap with "Dontchange" which re-entered the charts last week.
This week, there was a total of six debuts. Unexpectedly, No Doubt returns with "Running," which hot shot debuted at #55. Along with "Underneath It All," falling to #2, No Doubt has bigger news. Their hit "Hella Good" has been officially entered into the veterans hall of fame. At 36 weeks, and peaking at #1 for 6 weeks, "Hella Good" follows 311 into the veteran's hall of fame, being the fifth entry.
Other notable debuts include heatseeker Faith Hill's "When The Lights Go Down" at #57, and new hits by Alanis Morissette, The White Stripes, All-American Rejects, and Missy Elliott & Ludacris, barely debuting at #100. Vanilla Critics expect No Doubt and Faith Hill to have a big impact on next weeks charts.
Besides "Hella Good," falloffs include hits by New Found Glory, Ms. Jade, Dashboard Confessional, Paul Oakenfold, and The Vines. Dashboard Confessional's "Saints & Sailors" falls off before the previous hit, "Screaming Infidelities" had a chance to fall. "Screaming Infidelities" is already eligible for a veteran award and is currently at 37 weeks, at #59. "Screaming Infidelities" may even have a boost next week as their "MTV Unplugged" album hit stores.
Hip Hop makes a big impact this week. Ja Rule and Ashantis new hit, "Mesmerize" goes from #52 to #30. Also, Jennifer Lopez's "All I Have" goes from #60 to #31. These are both potential #1 hits.
The biggest increased songs this week come from Christina Aguilera, the Strokes, Dixie Chicks, Aaliyah, Puddle of Mudd, Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow, Musiq, John Mayer, Avril Lavigne, the Donnas, both of Norah Jones songs, Amerie, Ja Rule & Ashanti, and Jennifer Lopez.
Next weeks #1 would most likely be Christina Aguilera, but No Doubt or Nivea could stil rebound. The Dixie Chicks could also take the title. Next weeks possible top ten entrees are Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow, 3 Doors Down, Musiq, and John Mayer. Top Twenty entrees could possibly come from New found Glory, Norah Jones, Ja Rule & Ashanti, and Jennfier Lopez. Tune in next week to see who gets #1, and have a Merry Christmas.
