COMMENTARY:
No Doubt made it another week to with "Underneath It All" at #1, tying Kelly Clarkson's record of 5 consecutive weeks at #1. One more week makes six. But the biggest news for this week came by Nivea, who again, reached her personal peak. At week 12, Nivea reaches #2 with "Dont Mess With My Man" and could possibly be next weeks #1 song. Also making big news was Christina Aguilera who's "Beautiful" landed at #3 from #8 last week. The Distillers fall to #4 with "City of Angels" while the Strokes also make a leap into the top 5 with "Someday" at #5. The rest of the Top ten includes Santana, Eminem, Missy Elliott, top-ten-newcomer "Landslide," by the Dixie Chicks, and former #1, "Hey Ma," by Camron. The Dixie Chicks bumped out Pink's "Family Portrait" after a long run in the top ten.
Arguably, the best duo of the year is back, hot shot debuting at #52. Of course, were talking about Murda Inc duo Ja Rule and Ashanti, who have had top ten hits together with "Always On Time", And "Down 4 U." "Mesmerize" debuts at #52 and is a potential #1. "Mesmerize" is this weeks only debut, accompanying Musiq's "Dontchange" which makes a surprising re-entry to the chart at #54. Ruff Ryder's first Asian rapper Jin fell off with "I Dont Know," while Celine Dion's 2-Week-old single "At Last" also fell off this week.
There were many great leaps this week. The biggest and most notable singles that experienced a gain included Nivea, Christina Aguilera, the Strokes, Dixie Chicks, Aaliyah, 3 Doors Down, Kid Rock/Sheryl Crow, the Donnas, New Found Glory, Nirvana, Sheryl Crow, LL Cool J/Amerie, Lifehouse, Trust Company, Justin Timberlake, Shakira, and Jennfier Lopez. Meanwhile, Kelly Osbourne is experiencing the flipside of things. After peaking very high at #29, Kelly reaches an all-time low, already falling down at week 5 with "Shut Up," which falls from #32 to #61
Next week, No Doubt could possibly be #1, but Nivea could just as easily take #1 away from the group. Other candidates for next weeks #1 position are Christina Aguilera and the Strokes, who may have to settle for #2. Top 5 Entry Candidates are the Dixie Chicks and Puddle of Mudd. Possible top ten entry candidates are Aaliyah, 3 Doors Down, Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow, and Avril Lavigne. Top twenty entry candidates include New Found Glory, Nirvana, LL Cool J & Amerie, and possibly Ja Rule & Ashantis Mesmerize or Musiqs Dontchange. Top 100 debuts may include any of the handful of new heatseekers that were added this week. Check back to see how the chart changes next week.
