Commentary:
As the massive Rock Steady tour nears an end, tourmates No Doubt, the Distillers, and Garbage witnessed successful runs this week. No Doubt claimed #1 another week with Underneath It All, making it their third week at #1 with that song. Fellow punk tourmates the Distillers claimed #2 again with City of Angels. Garbage made a surprising comeback with "Shut Your Mouth" which dropped out weeks ago. Top five regulars Santana, Eminem, and Missy Elliott claimed the rest of the top five, respectively. Camron's "Hey Ma" falls to #6, Nivea climbs to #7, Boxcar Racer is at #8, the Strokes rise to #9 with "Someday," And Pink's "Family Portrait" lands at #10. Next weeks #1 could be a tossup between No Doubt, The Distillers, and Santana. Nivea and The Strokes may enter the top five, while Christina Aguilera and Puddle of Mudd could enter the top ten quickly.
Puddle of Mudd debuted very high at #23 with "She Hates Me." The second highest debut was by OK Go with "Get Over It" at #43. Something Corporate's Christmas song debuted early on the charts at #48 with "Forget December." Garbage makes a very surprising come back with the international hit, "Shut Your Mouth" returning at #64. Other debuts included New Found Glory, 702, Chevelle, Juliana Theory, Celine Dion, and Paulina Rubio.
The amazing wonder of Jimmy Eat Worlds breakout single, "The Middle" has finally been knocked out of the charts [by Juliana Theory] and been entered in the Veteran Awards Hall of Fame. After 38 weeks on the chart, this memorable song falls off, and what amazes us is that it only peaked at #19, even lower than Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty" which fell of this week as well, but only spent 13 Weeks on the chart. Unless "The Middle" surprisingly comes back, it is not eligible for an entry to the Hall of Fame. Watch this song enter the newly founded Top Twenty Recurrents in a couple weeks.
Nelly & Kelly Rowland's "Dilemma" fell off this week, which spent 21 Weeks on the top 100 and peaked at #8. Asian International singer BoA fell off with "Duvet", peaking at #9 and spending a total of 14 weeks on the chart.
As Christmas comes, watch for increases in many singles. Many debuts will come and many existing singles will rise. Watch next week to see who can be #1, and who will enter the Veteran Award next. Also, check out the first Annual Vanilla Grammy Nominees and vote for them next week.
